Forensic Medicine

Overview of Department

The Department of Forensic Medicine holds immense significance within a medical college, playing a critical role in the intersection of medicine and law. It is responsible for training future doctors in the principles and practices of forensic medicine, which involves the application of medical knowledge to legal matters. This department not only equips students with essential skills but also contributes to the administration of justice and the protection of public health. By providing education on topics such as post-mortem examination, medico-legal documentation, and the interpretation of injuries, the department prepares students to serve as expert witnesses, forensic consultants, and medical examiners.

Core Competencies:  Forensic Medicine is to train a doctor to become a competed Medico- legal expert with :

  1. An awareness of medico-legal aspects in various settings.
  2. An awareness of advances and developments in the field of forensic medicine and research methodology

Facilities and learning sources of the department:

Library: Departmental library is provided with 108 books and two desktops with an internet facility.

Research Laboratory: The Department of Forensic Medicine is well equipped with  the instruments required for regular medico –legal work.

Museum: A pretty good collection of specimens are displayed in the department museum. Including wet and dry specimens, models, photographs and charts.
